Baba - Nielson

Katie Elizabeth Baba - Matthew John Nielson Katie Elizabeth Baba - Matthew John Nielson Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Baba of Cleveland announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Elizabeth Baba, to Matthew John Nielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Nielson of Kennesaw, Ga.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sloan of Oneonta and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Baba of Cleveland. She graduated cum laude from Auburn University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis on landscape design and a minor in business. Katie was a member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority and Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies, vice president of Hort Forum, and soccer Sweetheart. She is employed by the University of Georgia in Athens as a mentor for student athletes.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Brand of Somers, Iowa, and Mrs. Lawrence Nielson and the late Lawrence “Timer” Nielson of Marion, S.D. Matthew graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis on landscape design. He served as president of Hort Forum and was a member of Auburn Concert Choir, Ag Ambassadors, ALCA, and Alpha Zeta honor fraternity. Matthew has been a partner for the past four years with Select Trees in Athens, Ga., with responsibilities in sales, marketing, and recruiting.

The wedding will take place August 1, 2009, at Lester Memorial United Methodist Church in Oneonta.
