OBITUARIES

BRENDA GAYLE BROOKS, 59, of Locust Fork, died June 29, 2009, at St. Vincent’s East. Born in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of James Gilley of Locust Fork and the late Jeanette Ladd Gilley. She was a member of Solid Rock Church in Pinson. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by grandson Anthony Brooks.

Surviving besides her father are husband Bobby G. Brooks; sons Jamie McAllister of Locust Fork and Dewayne Brooks of Arab; daughters Amy (Mike) Hendry of Cleveland and Rebecca Terrell of Locust Fork; grandchildren David Terrell, Travis Brooks, and Kelsey Brooks; sister Darlene (John) Harris of Locust Fork; brother Mark (Carol) Gilley of Locust Fork.

Larry Ragland was to officiate services today, Wednesday, July 1, at 2 p.m. at Lemley Chapel, interment to follow at Tabernacle Cemetery in Locust Fork.

GARRETT R. CADDEN, 77, of Pine Mountain, died at his residence Monday, June 22, 2009. Son of the late Rodney Carlton and Grace Evelyn Cadden, he was born in Birmingham, where he spent his boyhood. He loved Auburn University, but his education there was cut short by World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Navy. He later received an engineering degree in Texas and then retired from Ketona Chemical Company and the U.S. Treasury Department. A member of Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church, Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Pine Mountain Community Center, he had a passion for mission work and participated in mission trips to 48 states over a 26-year span.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years Betty Sue Cadden; daughter Norma (Doyle) Alexander and grandsons Ryan and Joseph, all of Taits Gap; goddaughters Anna Judd and Amy Graham; daughter Julie Cadden; sons James and Chris Cadden. Predeceasing him in addition to his parents was brother Eugene Marshall Cadden.

Herman Pair, Bill Barnett and Dan Cobb officiated services Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Lemley Chapel. Interment followed at Pleasant Mount Baptist Church Cemetery on Pine Mountain. Pallbearers were Doyle Alexander, Ryan Alexander, Brian Judd, Dewey Lewis, Dewey Alfred Lewis, and Ronnie Woods. Honorary pallbearers were Joseph Alexander, James Head, Billy Joe Smith, and members of the Pine Mountain Fire Department. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Clair Baptist Association Disaster Relief, P.O. Box 160, Ashville, AL 35953, and to Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 111, Remlap, AL 35133.

FRANK A. DOLCE, 64, of Oneonta, died June 21, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Blount. Born in New York, he was the son of Florence Ehrlich Grimes of St. George, Ga., and the late Frank Dominic Dolce Sr. He had been a truck driver for 36 years. Besides his father, he was predeceased by son Frank Albert Dolce Jr.

Surviving besides his mother are wife Mary King Dolce; sons Robert (Benita) Blaker of Boaz, Christopher Dolce of Shelby, N.C., Bruce (Theresa) Dolce of Okeechobee, Fla.; daughters Vickie Rogers of Okeechobee, Fla., and Sabina Shoonmaker of Shelby, N.C.; daughter-in-law Betty Rose Dolce of Buckhead, N.C.; eight grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned. Lemley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

EVELYN JUANITA GIBBS, 79, died June 22, 2009, at her residence at Snead. A Blount County native, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Della Engle Campbell and the widow of Billy Hugh Gibbs. She had worked as a cook at a local nursing home and was a member of New Emmaus Baptist Church. Predeceasing her besides her parents and husband were siblings Willie E. “Curly” Campbell, James Roy Campbell, Nathan “Dick” Campbell, Carl “Doc” Campbell, Laney Sue Jackson, Eula Faye Morse, and Edith Eller.

Surviving are sons Randy (LaDonna) Gibbs of Birmingham, Ricky (Jennifer) Gibbs of Snead, Eddie (Kay) Gibbs of Snead; daughter Teresa (Allan) Turner of Snead; sisters-in-law Bonnie Nairmore and Alene Brown of Snead; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Armstrong and Darrell Ballew officiated services Wednesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Snead Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Bethel Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Salter, Mike Campbell, Justin Gibbs, Allen Horton, Eric Strong, Tim Kent, and Morris Campbell.

MAX L. LIGHT, 66, died June 28, 2009, at his residence on Page Springs Road at Blountsville. A truck driver for Tyson Foods, he was the son of the late Buster and Dorothy Aline Rutledge Light. He was born in Marshall County. Predeceasing him besides his parents were son Terry Light and brothers John Lynn Light and Donnie Light.

Surviving are daughter Samantha (Rodney) Walker of Arab; stepdaughter April (Vince) Robertson of Blountsville; brother Wayne (Gayle) Light of Georgia; sisters Patsy (Ray) King of Guntersville and Cathy (Tommy) Bagwell of Huntsville; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren.

Jerry Hackney officiated graveside services June 30 at 4 p.m. at New Salem Church Cemetery in the Ryan community of Morgan County. Blountsville Funeral Home directed.

DREXEL L. PHILLIPS, 79, of Boaz died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Golden Living Nursing Home. He is survived by son Charlie (Jamie) Phillips and daughters Carlen (Jerry) Morgan and Connie (A.D.) Stephens, all of Boaz; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters Rene Duke of Boaz, Iris Dodd of Boaz, Audrey Scott of Anniston, Wynell Nixon of Horton, Helen McCoy of High Point, and Glenda Lowery of Boaz.

James Perigo and Clatus Nesmith officiated services Sunday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at McRae Chapel with inter-ment following in Friendship Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home of Boaz directed.

JIMMY EUGENE “TEX” SIMMONS, 61, of Rainbow Crossing community, Blountsville, died June 22, 2009, at his residence. Born in Orange County, Texas, he was the son of Bob Simmons of Orange, Texas, and the late Lois Smith Simmons. He had worked as a freezer clerk. Predeceasing him in addition to his mother was a daughter Dianna Dudley.

Surviving besides his father are wife Dianna L. Arnold Simmons; daughters Gina (Joe) Horvath of Beaumont, Texas, Paula Townson and Pamala Smith of Albertville; sons Jimmy (Rachel) Simmons Jr. of Louisville, Ky., and James “D.J.” (Jennifer) Simmons of Hanceville; stepdaughter Dawn (Caleb) Cooper of Hooks, Texas; grandchildren Kyle Tucker Simmons, Joseph Horvath Jr., Cody Townson, Lesley Townson, Chasitee Smith, Ashley Smith, Jessica Dudley, Tiffany Dudley, Dustin Dudley, Kayleigh Simmons, Kaigen Simmons, Jacob Cooper, and Brody Cooper; sisters Gayle Font of Dickenson, Texas, Barbara Hayes of Livingston, Texas, and Bobbie (Clyde) Sonier of Beaumont, Texas; brother David (Lorri) Simmons of Houston, Texas.

Randy Goble officiated services Wednesday, June 24, at 6 p.m. at Snead Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation followed the funeral service.
