A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant will allow for improvements to be made at Robbins Field. The $132,000 grant, administered through Congressman Robert Aderholt’s office, will be used to install perimeter fencing and rehabilitate runway lighting. “The fencing (construction) is definite,” said Oneonta city manager Ed Lowe. “We will install 1146 feet of new fence, including a new electric gate that will be key-coded, which should improve security of the airport.” More...

Kathy Dean Tidmore, 44, pled guilty Thursday in Blount County Circuit Court to the murder on July 30, 2007, of Alfred Holston Sr., 79, of 620 Washington Avenue, Oneonta. Judge Steven King presided. The case had been scheduled to go to trial on Friday last week. The charge was for murder committed during the course of a felony, which carries a sentence of 20 to 99 years, with the possibility of parole, according to Blount County District Attorney Tommy Rountree. Blount County Board of Education

The Blount County Board of Education has contracted with Koorsen Fire and Security to provide kitchen suppression upgrades and new installation in school lunchrooms throughout the county system. Work will be done at Appalachian School, Hayden Primary, Locust Fork High, J.B. Pennington, Southeastern, and Susan Moore High. The total amount of the contract is not to exceed $24,850 and a copy of the public works contract is on file in the superintendent’s office. More...

Chris Franklin, a junior at Southeastern Louisiana University, earned third team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Franklin, a transfer from Jefferson State Community College and a graduate of Oneonta High School, was named to the team as a right-handed reliever.
