Three arrests were made last week after a routine traffic stop turned into a whole lot more. Oneonta police officer Jonathan Ledbetter responded to a report of a man driving erratically along Ala 75 near Terry Sligh Automotive. Ledbetter found the car had already pulled into a parking space at the Villa Court Apartments on Ellen Street. Questioning the suspect led to his arrest, and a follow-up search of one of the apartment units led to the arrest of two more individuals and the seizure of meth lab components and drug paraphernalia. In recent months, the Blount County commission work session, held on the Thursday before the second Monday of each month, has increasingly become a popular court of appeals for local citizens seeking redress of grievances. Last Thursday was no exception. Only two of four scheduled delegations appeared, but both energized the 9:00 a.m. meeting from the outset. Rent remonstrance First, 14 members of the Blount County Quilters' Guild appeared to ask the commission to intervene to solve a problem between the guild and the Palisades Park board of directors. Town of Cleveland

The town council of Cleveland appears to have misplaced a few things. Immediately following prayer at Monday night’s meeting, roll call revealed the absence of councilmen Doug Hill and Glenn Puckett. This led councilman Mike Evans to question the town’s attorney of any legal ramifications. Quoting Section 11-4351 of the Code of Alabama, attorney Stan Glasscox stated that members can “compel the attendance of absent council members” but did not find recommended methods of how it should be done. Members of the county commission traveled to Montgomery the week of April 6 to meet with the Barnett Lawley, commissioner of ADNCR. More...
Did Mother Nature sanction a new Alabama State House?
Although a tragic death and severe property damage were caused by the torrential rain in Montgomery last Thursday, the downpour may have breathed new life into the proposal for a new Alabama State House. In the mid 1980s when the Legislature decided to remodel the Highway Department Building behind the Capitol and convert the top four floors for the Legislature, Gov. More...
Federal Reserve Bank needs transparency
A monumental bill before Congress right now is gaining more momentum by the day, HR 1207. “The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009” is a bill that would effectively audit the Federal Reserve Bank. The Federal Reserve Bank is the central banking system of the United States and is the only bank in America that has never been audited. The Federal Reserve private bank was given trillions of taxpayer dollars, including the Bailouts and TARP, and they refuse transparency. As of now, the Federal Reserve Bank is effectively above the law. More...
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Four Blount County high school softball teams made their way out of area tournaments to advance to section tournaments last week. However, for all but Susan Moore it was a short stay. Appalachian, Cleveland, and Locust Fork were a combined 0-6 in the tournaments with Appalachian and Locust Fork taking part in the north-central tournament at Liberty Park in Vestavia and Cleveland (along with Susan Moore) participating in the north tournament at the Huntsville Sportsplex.

Background Scripture: Ephesians 3:1-13. Devotional Reading: Isaiah 40:1-11. Christians often have difficulty in reading and understanding the Epistle to the Ephesians: long, complex sentences compacted with extensive theological concepts. I mention this for two reasons: (1) to reassure you if you have found these readings difficult, and (2) to explain why I am narrowing my comments to two points and not covering more of the background scripture which deserves considerably more attention.
