The Cleveland Town Council meeting was quietly called to order Monday night. There was moderate attendance of the townspeople, and along with Mayor Larry Longhsore, all council members were present. Following prayer, councilman Mike Evans began with an estimate from SprayMax for herbicidal treatment along the roadsides. More...

At its semiannual meeting March 18, the Blount County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) received reports from county agencies that could respond to or be involved in major emergency incidents. It started several months back when, according to talk circulating around Montgomery, sources believed to be connected to Gov. Bob Riley began circulating certain rumors about Atty. Gen. The high school baseball season has been going for almost two months now but the games that count - at least for our local teams - began this week. Ernie Willingham's Appalachian Eagles have already played a couple of area contests but the other six schools got their first taste of area play this week. More...

The week-long event featured country, gospel, and bluegrass performers from New Zealand, Canada, and across the United States. More...
Gather at the river
Background Scripture: Ezekiel 47:1-12. Devotional Reading: John 4:7-15 The book of Ezekiel began with his visions by the River Chebar* during the Babylonian captivity of the people of Israel. It continued through various descriptions of the faithlessness that brought the people of God into humiliating exile. More...
The Blount Countian generally does not publish obituaries unless the deceased have direct connections to this county. If your relative's obit did not appear in the paper, that is probably the reason. GLENDA SUE BULLARD, 62, died March 18, 2009, at her residence in Oneona. A native of Ohatchee, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie Ruth Johnson Moore. More...
