Redskins hold off Panthers
      The Oneonta Redskins jumped out to a 14-0 lead and then held off the visiting Southside Panthers last Friday night for a 28-21 season-opening win. The Oneonta offense got a pair of big plays early from sophomore wide receiver Alvin Scott – touchdown receptions of 24 and 41 yards from junior quarterback Schyler Walker – to build a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

      The visiting Cleveland Panthers jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back in a 41-6 throttling of Oakman in an important 2A Region 7 game to open the season last Friday.

Wildcats pound Yellow Jackets
      Corner scored the first points last Thursday night but Hayden scored the next 37 as the Wildcats coasted to a 37-14 victory at Corner. After Corner got a 5-yard touchdown pass from Blake Byrd to Jacob Collier to lead 7-0 after the first quarter, Hayden reeled off 25 points in the second quarter and 12 more in the third to seize control.

Bearcats surprise Bulldogs
      The Weaver Bearcats forced five Susan Moore turnovers and returned a kickoff for a touchdown in a surprising 24-21 victory over the visiting Bulldogs last Friday night. Susan Moore jumped out quickly to a 14-0 lead after one quarter. Bulldog quarterback Justin Hawkins fired touchdown passes of 6 yards to Phillip McEvoy and 29 yards to Preston Kent in the opening period.

Eagles slip by Tigers
      The Appalachian Eagles got a 22-yard touchdown run from quarterback Cameron Cox with less than a minute to play to complete a dramatic comeback to knock off the J.B. Pennington Tigers 27-21 last Thursday night. Cox started the scoring for the Eagles with a 1-yard run late in the first quarter to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Lions too much for Hornets
     Crossville freshman quarterback Will Scott threw three touchdown passes and the Crossville defense did the rest in a 24-10 victory at Locust Fork last Friday night. Scott hit John Williamson with a 45-yard toss in the first quarter to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.

Bulldogs take Redskins 3-1
      The Susan Moore Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 3-1 victory over Oneonta last week as the high school volleyball season kicked off for area teams. Oneonta took the first set 25-22 but Susan Moore rallied to sweep the next three sets 25-23, 25-13, and 26-24 to win the match.
