Blount County Baseball Tournament dodges weather
      Cleveland, Oneonta, and Locust Fork were the winners during Monday’s first day of the Blount County Baseball Tournament. At Appalachian, Cleveland held off Hayden 3-2 to advance to meet Appalachian yesterday afternoon. The loser of that game was to meet Hayden in an elimination game last night.

Fourth-grade all stars take second in tournament
     The Blount County 4th-grade girls all star team took second place in the Cullman Invitational last month. The team defeated Hanceville 16-7 in the first round before knocking off Cold Springs 22-9 in the semifinals. In the championship game, Parkside held off Blount County 18-17 to win the tournament.

Blount 12-and-under all stars win district
     The Blount County Girls No. 1 All-Star basketball team won the District 4 Tournament in Piedmont and will play in the state tournament this weekend. The team defeated Jacksonville 35-22, Hokes Bluff 33-25, and Heflin 32-15 to win the title. The other Blount County all star team advanced to the semifinals before falling to Heflin.

Avengers off to 2-0 start
      The Alabama Avengers, a semi-pro football team with several local connections, are off to a quick start. The Georgia Vikings were the latest victim after the Avengers piled up 31 points over the final two quarters to cruise to a 45-8 victory last Saturday at J.B. Pennington’s William R. Sutton Memorial Stadium.

      Four member of the Oneonta Swim Team participated in the Anniston Spring Fling Meet last Saturday. The meet featured seven teams from around the state.
