Cleveland, Oneonta, and Locust Fork were the winners during Monday’s first day of the Blount County Baseball Tournament. At Appalachian, Cleveland held off Hayden 3-2 to advance to meet Appalachian yesterday afternoon. The loser of that game was to meet Hayden in an elimination game last night. More ... More ... The Blount County Girls No. 1 All-Star basketball team won the District 4 Tournament in Piedmont and will play in the state tournament this weekend. The team defeated Jacksonville 35-22, Hokes Bluff 33-25, and Heflin 32-15 to win the title. The other Blount County all star team advanced to the semifinals before falling to Heflin. More ... The Alabama Avengers, a semi-pro football team with several local connections, are off to a quick start. The Georgia Vikings were the latest victim after the Avengers piled up 31 points over the final two quarters to cruise to a 45-8 victory last Saturday at J.B. Pennington’s William R.
