      Jessica Ann Montana of Locust Fork and Jeffrey Bartow Cannon Jr. of Birmingham were married Feb. 21, 2010, in a 2 p.m. ceremony at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham. Officiating minister was Jimmy Morton, and organist was Cecil Whitmire.

Former resident marks birthday
      Former resident Bennie Jo Whited celebrated her 93rd birthday recently in Athens, where she lives with her son Glenn and daughter-in-law Carol. Joining them for the celebration were her grandchildren Kim (Mark) Krome of Huntsville and Jennifer (Denis) Kler of Atlanta and greatgrandchildren Sophie, Celie, Rett, Keegan, and Kinsley.

History comes alive at Oneonta
     Oneonta Elementary sixth-grade surround Maureen Harmon, who was guest speaker as the group studied the Great Depression. Affectionately known as “Mamo,” Mrs. Harmon is the great-grandmother of sixth-grader Emily Nash, daughter of Anthony and Paige Nash (Paige being Mrs. Harmon’s granddaughter). She talked to students about the CCC, WPA, and TVA, some of President Franklin D.

Sixth-grader wins county spelling bee
      Anna Claire Roach, a sixth-grader at Locust Fork Elementary School, is the 2010 Blount County spelling bee winner. Her countywide win came shortly after she was announced as the 2010 champion of her school spelling bee.

Can you help?
      She appeared on the doorstep of the Gamble family in Warrior and sat there shivering for three hours before they decided to offer her a warm spot to sleep in their garage. Young Riley, only five years old, questioned his mom about what would happen to the dog that would come to be called Hope.

     CONNOR WILLEM PARVIN, son of Mikey and Kirsten Parvin of Remlap, marked his first birthday Dec. 10, 2009. He celebrated with a party at home with family. Connor’s grandparents are Larry and Rhonda Parvin and Carl and Karen Frey, all of Oneonta, and his great-grandmother is Rosie Posten, also of Oneonta.

Nick’s Kids donates to county facility
      ACCEPTING A $1000 CHECK from Tyson’s Jan Casey and Vickey Craig is Randy Walker, director of Blount County Multi-Needs Center. The center was awarded the $1000 from Nick’s Kids, a charitable organization founded more than a decade ago by Nick and Terry Saban when Nick was head football coach at Michigan State University.
